The KazNTU national scientific multiple-access laboratory for information and space technologies initiated by the RK President and set up in 2010 is by far the largest computing center in the country. KazNTU on the basis of this supercomputer created a rendering farm, the largest in Central Asia, for engineering 3D-modeling and 3D-animation calculations. The latter was used by Kazakhfilm movie company for making the first national full-length animated cartoon film "Er Tostik and Aydahar". The laboratory has also developed a 3D-scenes online rendering technology presently being in a commercialization stage, created the KazNTU Computing GRID based on voluntary distributed computing, developed the state language OCR system. The university has also been engaged in designing a risk estimates system for negative impact of technological accidents on the North Caspian Sea ecosystem and etc. Leading research organizations of the country carry out various research projects on the basis of KazNTU multiple-access laboratory and the Supercomputer.
The meeting of High Scientific Technology Committee under the RK Government, 31 July 2014, chaired by Prime Minister K.Massimov, elaborated key projects with strategic tasks and priority areas of their target financing. High Scientific Technology Committee within the context of its incorporation documents has developed the HSTC advance development plan for the next five years.
The Computing cluster (KazNTU supercomputer) can play an integral role in the buildup of G-Cloud information and communication infrastructure and in the matter of implementation of the national "Information Kazakhstan 2020" policy.
